Anyone who’s read CHLOE knows there’s quite a bit going on: Chloe’s problems at the radio station, her break-up with her BFFs, her romance with Duncan, Parkinson’s Disease, meth addiction, and Brie’s issues at home. Um, yeah. But here’s a little secret: in the first draft, there was even MORE going on. I had a major substory with pregnant Haley and additional scenes with Clementine, Frack, and Zach, Chloe’s brother. Plus, Grams had nosed her way into forty additional pages. Why so much? I think it’s because Chloe and her story are very real to me. She lived in my head and heart for two years, and her life is so much more than the 299 pages that make up this story. But as an author, I needed to select only those experiences Chloe needed for THIS life-changing journey, which is ultimately the story of how she learns to shut up and be alone without being lonely. Below are two of my favorite deleted scenes that I slayed and hid in my writerly dungeon. Enjoy!
